About CFMC’s Board of Directors
Board members are actively involved in making sure CFMC is the amazing place it is –and they work to ensure that it will continue to thrive, grow, and improve long into the future. There are many ways they do this - including attending Board meetings, supporting fundraising efforts, and representing us in the wider community. And they have a passion for making a difference in the lives of our members and others in our community living with Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and other movement challenges.
All Board members are actively involved in governing CFMC and are therefore expected to:
Attend at least 6 (out of 9) board meetings per year. Board meetings are held on Thursdays at 6:00 PM with virtual and in-person attendance options.
Participate on and eventually lead at least one board committee.
Support CFMC fundraising efforts by making a personal financial contribution and raising at least $1,000 annually (inclusive of the personal contribution).
Manage at least three donor or community partner relationships.
The term for Board membership is three years and may be extended to six years. After six years, a sabbatical of one year or longer is required before the member may return to the Board.
We are seeking new Board members who will help widen our breadth of skills, increase our community representation, and expand our capacity for special projects. For this reason, we encourage applicants with accounting, human resources, legal, media, IT, operations, volunteer, and fundraising expertise, as well as those connected to regional organizations serving people with movement challenges.
We also expect that Board members will have a personal connection to Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, or another movement challenge. This does not require that Board members have a movement challenge themselves. Rather the connection might be through a family member, close friend, or professional experiences.

Interested candidates are invited to an optional Board Information Session at the Center for Movement Challenges on Thursday, August 11 at 6:00 PM. This session will provide you with additional information about CFMC and Board service as well as the opportunity to observe a class and tour our facility. Fill out and submit our online application. Applications are due Friday, August 19 (after the Board Information Session).
Those selected for Board service will be asked to complete a 4-part Board orientation before being officially appointed to the Board. This orientation is designed to inform, inspire, and initiate so you are ready to be engaged and effective on Day One of your Board membership. Please be aware that each session will have approximately one hour of pre-work or follow-up activities:
CFMC Board Governance (last week of August)
CFMC Programs (second week of September)
CFMC Fundraising (fourth week of September)
CFMC Finances (third week of October)
We will do our best to offer orientation sessions at a date and time that is convenient for those selected for Board service
